Mission
At Vava Coffee, we exist to disrupt exploitative coffee trade systems, challenge colonial narratives, and create equitable, direct access for producers, roasters, and consumers who believe in profitable trade. Through ethical sourcing, transparent pricing, and purpose-driven storytelling, we empower smallholder farmers—especially women—to build sustainable livelihoods while reshaping the global coffee industry with integrity and impact.
Goals
Ethical Coffee Pricing & Profitability – Advocate for pricing models that reflect the true value of labor, ensuring both farmers and buyers thrive in a sustainable coffee economy.
Direct Market Linkages – Connect roasters with premium, traceable Kenyan coffee through long-term, transparent relationships with smallholder farmers and cooperatives.
Authentic Coffee Storytelling – Reframe coffee marketing by amplifying the voices of producers, crafting narratives that honor their contributions, and challenging outdated colonial branding.
Cultural Context & Ethical Marketing – Guide brands in developing culturally respectful and impact-driven marketing strategies that celebrate African coffee heritage.
Photography & Visual Storytelling – Provide high-quality visual documentation to connect consumers with the true journey of their coffee from seed to cup.
Community Engagement & Social Impact – Foster deeper industry involvement through initiatives like an annual volunteer program in Lamu, equipping local youth with coffee skills and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Our Story
At Vava Coffee, we believe coffee is more than just a commodity—it is a force for change. Since 2009, we have been on a mission to dismantle colonial structures in the coffee trade and create direct, equitable access for roasters and consumers who believe in trade, not aid.
As a lapsed Certified B-Corp (2023), we work with a dynamic network of smallholder farmers across East Africa, exporting and roasting premium coffee while advocating for better opportunities within the industry. Our goal? To challenge the status quo, disrupt exploitative systems, and build sustainable livelihoods for coffee-growing communities.
Nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of Kajiado County, home to the resilient Maasai community, we’re redefining what’s possible in an atypical coffee-growing region. Through trade, education, and capacity building, we create economic empowerment pathways—especially for women and girls—ensuring that coffee isn’t just a product, but a catalyst for change.
Vava Coffee is more than just a brand; it is a movement. Over the years, we have been recognized globally not only for our exceptional coffee-trading ethos but also for our deep social impact. And we’re just getting started.
To those who have supported us—whether by purchasing our coffee, backing our fundraising efforts, or simply offering words of encouragement—we see you, we appreciate you, and we love you.
The grind continues.
